When a family decide to go away for holiday, it’s difficult sometimes to leave their beloved pet behind in the care of friends, neighbor or even kernels. Bringing them along for a ride takes a bit of work, but it’s not as hard as you might think if you go fully prepared.

-	If your pet has never traveled before, “break” them in by taking them on short drives and overnight trips.

-	Traveling with your pet is not a simple matter of just loading them into a car, get a sturdy, properly ventilated carrier in which your pet can stand up, turn around and lie down in comfortably. Use familiar bedding and get your pet accustomed to it before you begin your trip.

-	Visit your vet before traveling and ask about risks of flea, heartworm, and ticks at your destination. Make sure all vaccinations are up to date. If traveling by air, you will need to have health and rabies certificates as well. Pets, too, can get carsick and get restless when traveling so ask appropriate medications

-	If traveling in car, don’t allow your pet to ride with its head outside the window. This could cause inner ear damage and lung infections and it could be injured by flying objects. Keep your pet in a carrier or with a harness attached to seat a buckle.

-	Don’t feed your pet in a moving vehicle

-	If flying, check the airlines’s pet policies. If you can’t take your pet into the cabin with you, ask if you can watch your pet being loaded and unloaded in the cargo hold. And always travel on the same flight as your pet.

-	It’s easy to get separated from your pet while traveling, so get a leash and collar. If available, you may want to consider having a microchip implanted as well. The procedure is safe, quick and common. Your pet should wear a collar at all times, with tags showing proof of vaccinations and your name and your contact number. Bring along photo of your pet, showing unusual markings for easy identification.

-	Bring enough food for your pet to last the trip If you’re unsure the brand will be available where you’re headed. Bring fresh water too and gradually introduce your pet to local food and water.

-	They should be never be taken on an escalator as their claws and fur could get caught, and they should never be left alone in a parked car.

-	Don’t forget treats, toys and waste removal bags!

There are a number of Tibet restaurants to choose from. Depending upon where you stay, some places offer more of a selection than others. Prices can vary as well, but most people can find meals at a reasonable cost.

The variety and number of restaurants increases, as expected, in the larger cities and towns. These include Lhasa, Shigatse, and Gyangze to name a few. When heading out to the more rural areas, one may want to pack some snacks(or meals) with them, to ensure an adequate supply is always available.

Besides Tibetan food, Xinjiang and Sichuan cuisine are also readily available. This is due to the proximity of these regions to Tibet. However, Indian and other international fare can be found for tourists with a “choosy palate”.

The following below lists mainly places to try while staying in Lhasa.By no means is this an exhaustive list.

A resource I used for the creation of this list was the book Lhasa Tibet: A bright Pearl on Snowland. I added another spot, in Shigatse, one may want to try.

(Tibet-Style) Xueshen Palace-located on the west side of Potala Palace-0891-6335866-Typical Tibetan food at reasonable prices.

Snowland Hotel Restaurant-#4 Tibet Hospital Road-0891-6337323.

Barkhor Cafe-located south of Jokhang Temple-0891-6326892-More of a snack and drink place, the highlite is its rooftop dining.

Kailash-Beijing Dong Road-International food with good environment.

Beijing Fat Cow Restaurant-Minzhu North Road-0891-6830300.

Korean Jinbaihua Bar-B-Cue-Minzhu North Road-0891-6819998.

Hard Yak Cafe-Located inside the Lhasa Hotel-Food is of good quality, different international dishes, but somewhat expensive.

Lhasa Kitchen-Beijing Dong Road-Good local Tibetan food at cheap prices.

Makye Ama-Near Jokhang Temple-Popular hangout, offering international food.

Zhaxi Restaurant-#28 Gesanglakung-Shigatse.

Below is a basic Tibet map outlining the seven major regions. These include Lhasa, Shannan, Chamdo, Xigaze, Nyingchi, Ngari, and Nagqu. The region head office of government is located in Lhasa, which is the capital. Despite its size with respect to the other regions, Lhasa is the most developed area in Tibet. Consequently, it attracts the most visitors and remains Tibet`s brighest tourist spot. Other regions are starting to see an increase in tourism. This is a result of many factors, in particularly due to the increased development Tibet has seen recently.

Outer lying China regions are also shown on this map, including Qinghai, Sichuan, and Yunnan areas. Some of these areas are entrance ways to access the region. They are also worth seeing if you have the time. Keep in mind at one point Tibet`s boundaries were more extensive. The territory extended further north and east.
Shigatse(also spelled Xigaze) is located in the southwest portion of the Tibet Autonomous Region. It is a large region consisting of 17 counties. The population is ~640,000 and the region is 190,000 sq km.

The climate in the region can range from wet and mild summers to cold, dry winters.

The administration offices of the region are located in the city by the same name as the region-Xigaze. It is a large, developed city, only surpassed in size by Lhasa. The city has prospered by many local businesses. These include construction, real estate, printing, machinery, restaurants, and hotel industries.

shigatse tibet

Gyangze is a small town located in the region. Its claim to fame was that it was the economic and political seat of old Shigatse Region. Like the city Xigaze, it is also beginning to flourish. It is also world famous for its manufacturing of beautiful carpets.

Xigaze has a number of points of interest for the tourist. For starters, it has some of the grandest mountains in all of Tibet. One such famous mountain goes by the name of Everest! This provides climbers from all over the world a chance to test their skills. Some scenic and historical spots include the Tashilhungpo(past home of the Panchen Lama) and the Xalhu,Palkhor and Sagya Monasteries. Another site to check out is the Pala Family Mansion. If you get to Gyangze town, you can witness the site that Britain fought the Tibetans-Dzong Hill.

The city of Alanya is situated on the Gulf of Antalya on Turkey’s Mediterranean coast; Alanya has been a favored seaside holiday resort for over 800 years and features in dealcheckers range of cheap holidays.

Although the historic city of Alanya is a really good place to visit, there are several other beautiful locations to spend some quality time in as well. If you would rather explore Turkey in the holidays you should always think of Belek. Belek is a sprawling holiday resort town specifically developed for tourism and over the last two decades has grown to encompass the neighboring village of Kadriye.

Most of the large Belek hotels have shops selling curios and holiday souvenirs, and the town has some lively street markets that are the perfect place to sample freshly cooked food and do a spot of gift shopping. Or if you are looking for a vacation spot more quiet and simple you should try going to the town of Dalyan. Unlike neighbouring holiday resorts, Dalyan is a largely undeveloped, tranquil village offering a great number of natural and historical attractions, as well as original Turkish friendliness and hospitality. The local market on Saturdays provides an unusually great way to pick up bargains while on holidays; as with anywhere in Turkey, haggling is key and there are unbelievable deals to be made.

If you are looking for a peaceful natural wilderness Turanc is the place to go. This tranquil village was once a major fishing retreat. The beaches are pleasant, with safe swimming in crystal clear water, and there are several water sports such as para-sailing, pedal boating and jet skiing on offer. There are also a countless number of authentic restaurants that offer a one of a kind dining experience. This village has grown in size to become one of the most popular tourist attraction sites ever to lay eyes on. So next you want to enjoy a one of a kind vacation experience try some of these quality locations.

Nyingchi(also spelled Nyangchi) is located in the southeast portion of the Tibet Autonomous Region. This region is characterized by emerald-green pastures and forests. Snowy mountain tops, as well as lakes and waterfalls all can be found within the region.

The region consists of 7 counties and spans an area of approximately 100,000sq km. The population tops off at 165,000. The region also has a newly built airport, which should contribute to an increase in tourism.

nyingchi_airport

The climate in the region is vastly different than other parts of Tibet-neither freezing cold or blistering hot. It does get a fair amount of precipitation and has quite a bit of humidity. The climate adds to the wonderful landscape of the area.

Nyangchi is a unique region, in that it houses Tibet`s largest forest. It is also home to many rare species of animals. Some of these include the antelope, bengal tiger, as well as pandas. Nyangchi is also home to the ancient ethnic peoples groups called the Lhoba and the Monba.

Bayi is one of the most important areas in Nyingchi. It is located toward the northern section of the region. It has recently grown very rapidly and is one of the major industrial towns in all of Tibet. Here one can manufacture building materials, paper, wool, food stuff, and farming equipment to name a few. The town has further advanced since the completion of the region`s airport.

Nyingchi is famous for over 35 scenic spots spread throughout the region. Included in this list are Basum Co(lake)-definitely worth seeing, and the Cypress Forest-which include some trees over 1000 years old. The Peach valley in the southeast portion of Nyangchi county is noteworthy. There are a number of waterfalls worth the time to see. These include the Tigermouth and Beiben waterfalls.

The ancient tombs in Nang county and Mainling county`s Lhoba people`s village are fascinating stops. One should not miss seeing two of the largest canyons in the world-the Yarlung Zhangbo(largest) and the Parlung Zhangbo(3rd largest). They are incredible sites that definitely will heighten your senses!

Ngari is situated in the western region of Tibet. The region is made up of lakes and rivers, mountains and glaciers, as well as pastures and clay forests. The scenery is breathtaking, and will be sure to leave the onlooker in awe.

The region is roughly 300,000sq km with a population of just over 80,000 people. It is divided into 7 counties. Once an important center that acted as a communications link between the east and the west, it now plays a smaller role with respect to other regions in Tibet.

Ngari has an interesting historic past. It is the site in which the famous indigenous Bon religion was created. The Bon religion was the predecessor(or at the least contributed to) of what is now Tibetan Buddhism. Even today, traces of the Bon religion are still evident in their most purest of forms.

Among the counties, Shiquanhe is one of the main towns located in the region, as well as all of western Tibet. Despite being small, it has recently experienced a growth surge economically. One can witness small shops and restaurants, as well as a number of government offices popping up throughout the town. Many people from the nearbye Chinese provinces also come into Shiquanhe to do business.

As with most Tibetan regions, there are many natural and historic sites of interest located here. Among them are the Guge Ruins and the Toding Temple. Mt. Kailash and Lake Manasarovar(south of Mt. Kailash) are worth seeing as well. Mapam Yumco lake and the Dongar frescoes of Zada should also be checked out.

The film is a first in that the director, and most of the cast and crew are Tibetan. While there have been Chinese-made Tibetan movies in the past, Tibetans were usually not involved in the films. The films were also usually not in the Tibetan language.

The director, Wanmacaidan, wanted the film to be strict to it`s Tibetan roots and show how the region has developed and prospered in the recent times.

Currently the film has received great applause and has won numerous honors worldwide.
