Norwegian Spirit Reviews

Detailed review of Norwegian Spirit cruise ship!

Norwegian Spirit (originally SuperStar Leo) is only a recent addition to NCL fleet. The vessel would probably still be sailing under Star Cruises Malaysia banner, if not the unexpected accident that struck Pride of America and caused the ship to sunk near completion in a shipyard.

SC Malaysia gave then their SuperStar Leo to NCL, diverting her from her usual Asian trips to the North America. That’s the reason why this Norwegian cruise ship’s interior design is all Asian, with Far East artwork on the walls and a special room reserved for mah-jong.

Basic information & facts

The ship was introduced in 1998. 13 passenger decks, over 75,000 tons of tonnage and almost 2,000 passengers place Norwegian Spirit right between large- and mid-size classes. The ship has just undergone a major refurbishment – the first since she became a part of the NCL fleet, but most of Asian interior design remained intact.

Dining

Norwegian Spirit passengers profit from “freestyle cruising” experience that became a mark of NCL lines. All meals are open-seated. There are two main dining rooms and four supporting restaurants and eateries, just enough for a 7-day cruise. The food is ok, with an exception of sandwiches ordered via room service – they are pre-made and the bread is often too hard.

Cabins

The ship was built for Asian market and it shows especially in the cabin design. Virtually everything is a few inches too short, too low or too small. It is especially irritating in the bathroom and in the toilet – the experience can be really claustrophobic, especially if you’re a taller-than-usual person. Beside that, however, the only problem is inadequate storage space (again, everything is a few inches too small). Interior design is excellent, with lots of bright colors – your children will love it!

Not-to-be-missed

As aboard most other NCL ships, the entertainments are the strong point of Spirit. However, there is only one must-be: the art auctions. Both the presented artwork and the exquisite atmosphere makes them big hits.

Where does she go?

Norwegian Spirit itineraries concentrate on the South Caribbean and Bahamas.
